Automotive Mission
More
and more complex electronic systems in vehicles means higher development costs
and increasing time-to-market pressure. These factors have changed the face
of the automotive industry. Component suppliers have become system integrators,
supplying the manufacturers with complete systems, including electronics. Further
down the supply chain, the electronic components supplier is now expected to
align his organisation completely to the needs of automotive electronics and
to cover a wide spectrum of automotive products and applications.
European interface
Headquartered in Düsseldorf, NEC Electronics' Automotive Business Unit is right at the heart of the world's most challenging automotive market. The 80-strong team of highly motivated engineers in our Europe-wide network of automotive engineering centres and sales offices ensures we always have a finger on the pulse of the industry's needs. To translate those needs into sophisticated product realities, our team has direct access to the know-how of some 100 chip designers at our European Technology Centre, not to mention the huge potential of our parent company in Japan. Naturally, European activities are actively integrated into the global automotive activities of NEC Electronics. Global coordination and global support are therefore assured, keeping you, our European customers, in tune with what today is a truly global market.
Automotive all the way
We have a clear European focus, offering the comprehensive, in-depth know-how you expect from a genuine integrated device manufacturer. For you this means:
- cutting-edge technologies with the ability and flexibility to take future developments in your stride,
- highest quality and reliability in product performance, delivery and logistics,
- the competitive pricing plus short turn-around times will turn you into a driving force in your field.
Supplying solutions, not just products
It's a long way from an idea to a controller device in series production. Completing this trip successfully takes more than just a good product. Equally important are reliable technical support, state-of-the-art development tools, good documentation and last, but not least, the assurance that components can be supplied in the required quantity. Feedback repeatedly confirms that NEC more than meets all these criteria. For example, Frost & Sullivan Awarded NEC Electronics for the best automotive microcontroller strategy in 2004.
Turning ideas into silicon
As early as 1995, we set up the European Technology Centre (ETC) in Düsseldorf. Centrally located to serve European markets, the ETC today employs over 100 people. Their expertise in chip design is available to customers - for microcontrollers and ASICs, from idea to series production. With leading CMOS process technology, of course. The result is impressive: the major portion of our automotive microcontroller range was developed entirely in Europe. And more than every second dashboard on the road in Europe is controlled by one of our devices.
Quality assurance for extreme reliability
Zero
failure strategy and continuous improvement are two concepts that at us truly
live up to their names. To achieve supreme quality, we apply 100 per cent burn-in
during production testing. This process eliminates early failures right from
the beginning, ensuring the best possible quality in all products delivered
to our customers. Naturally, we are certified to major industry standards, e.g.
ISO9000 and TS16949. All product developments are accompanied by APQP/PPAP,
while product qualification complies with leading standards such as AEC, MIL
and JEDEC, providing objective documentation of our quality leadership. The
outcome is extremely rugged products with a long service life and close-to-zero
error rates. We never lose sight of the end result, the highest possible reliability
and safety on the road.
