Mobile communication implies radio. Indeed, radio even in two directions. The most obvious one is in establishing a radio connection between the mobile network and the cell phones or mobile terminals. But also on the other side the connection between the base station to the core network of a mobile phone operator in surprisingly high numbers is realised with radio links. On top of this, wireless local area networks (WLAN) represent a major growth market these days - with applications in office, at home and for public access, here complementing of even competing with cellular mobile networks. Combining radio link technology and WLAN technology is the base of Fixed Wireless Broadband, these days in the move from proprietary into standard solutions.
