NEC LCD Technologies Further Enhances “ST-NLT” Lineup through Launch of Three New TFT LCD Modules

NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd. (NEC LCD Technologies) today announced that it will begin successive shipment of three new amorphous silicon thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) samples by the end of June 2006. The new products comprise of an 8.4-inch (21cm-diagonal) super video graphics array (SVGA) TFT LCD module, part number NL8060BC21-03, an 8.4-inch (21cm-diagonal) video graphics array (VGA) TFT LCD module, part number NL6448BC26-09C and a 6.5-inch (17cm-diagonal) video graphics array (VGA) TFT LCD module, part number NL6448BC20-20.

All three new LCD modules feature NEC LCD Technologies’ proprietary super-transmissive natural light TFT (ST-NLT) technology that achieves display of vivid colors in environments with high ambient light, enabled by 50% added brightness as compared with conventional models. In addition, the new LCDs boast a wide operating-temperature range of -10 degrees Celsius to +70 degrees Celsius (* NL6448BC26-09C support -20 degrees Celsius to +70 degrees Celsius).

These new and enhanced features make all three new models ideal for installation in automatic vending machines, point-of-sales systems for gas stations and measuring instruments for boats and ships such as fish finders, chart plotters, radars and GPS navigators.

Since the launch of its 5.5-inch TFT LCD module, part number NL3234BC35-22, featuring ST-NLT technology last April, market demand for NEC LCD Technologies’ ST-NLT-based products in a variety of sizes and resolutions has risen dramatically as the technology enables display of vivid colors even under extremely bright outside light, which has long been an issue of conventional electronic display devices. Further expansion of the product lineup was undertaken following the successful launch of NEC LCD Technologies’ 12.1-inch TFT LCD module, part number NL8060BC31-32, last August.

“NEC LCD Technologies’ three new LCDs were developed specifically to respond to increasing market demand for ST-NLT-based products, further testimony of our leading competence in this field,” said Hidetoshi Usui, department manager in charge of product planning and marketing, NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd. “These new additions bring NEC LCD Technologies ST-NLT-based product lineup to five, with products ranging from 5.5 to 12.1 inches, enabling us to respond to a broad range of market needs.”

NEC LCD Technologies will continue to enhance its lineup of LCDs adopting ST-NLT technology for a variety of industrial applications and a range of environmental conditions.
