NEC Electronics joins AUTOSAR Development Partnership as Premium MemberKAWASAKI, Japan, SANTA CLARA, Calif., DUESSELDORF, Germany 09 Sep 2004 NEC Electronics Corporation and its subsidiaries in Europe and the United States, NEC Electronics (Europe) GmbH, and NEC Electronics America, Inc., today announced that NEC Electronics Corporation has joined the Automotive Open System Architecture ("AUTOSAR") Development Partnership as a Premium Member. AUTOSAR (Automotive Open System Architecture) was established in 2003, with companies such as BMW Group, Robert Bosch GmbH, Continental AG, Daimler Chrysler AG, Volkswagen AG, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Siemens VDO Automotive AG, Ford Motor Company and Toyota Motor Corporation playing central roles as core partners. The goals of the partnership include the standardization of basic system functions and functional interfaces, the ability to integrate and transfer functions, and to substantially improve software updates and upgrades over a vehicle’s lifetime. NEC Electronics is an established semiconductor company with deep expertise in the definition of effective automotive microcontroller architectures, supporting the needs of the automotive industry in terms of cost effectiveness, minimum power consumption and targeted feature sets. Based on its automotive-proven semiconductor technology, NEC Electronics’ aim is to become one of the major suppliers of AUTOSAR-compliant microcontroller products. "NEC Electronics is committed to helping AUTOSAR achieve its goals by developing AUTOSAR-compliant products for the automotive industry,” stated Minoru Matsuda, General Manager of the Automotive Systems Division in NEC Electronics Corporation. “NEC Electronics will continue to develop new solutions for our automotive customers that meet and exceed their future requirements for standardized hardware and software platforms.” ###
