Cost-efficient 8-bit microcontroller with flash memory inside
An 8-bit microcontroller has been released by NEC Electronics Europe that allows the designer to reduce costs yet maintain reliability.
In a break to the consumer appliances and electronics industry where simple features require only an on/off function, this new 8-bit microcontroller provides the essential utility with no need for an additional flash memory chip eating up space on the PC board.
At the same time, this gives designers the freedom to expand simple designs with components attuned to their application and the option to avoid paying for features they may not use or are not perfectly suited to the application. The new 8 bit microcontrollers are available in a tiny 10-pin package, which minimizes the overall footprint of the design.
This is just one example from the line of 8 bit microcontrollers that NEC Electronics provides. NEC Electronics has transferred their knowledge of the automotive industry into components for all applications; their 8-bit microcontrollers have various speeds, memory size and voltage capabilities in many different sized packages.
Their integrated all flash memory is an alternative to mask ROMs because of development cost, flexibility, and even power consumption. Sample 8-bit microcontrollers are currently being shipped with an intuitive development platform for disabling of read/write features to secure code from reverse engineering. Additionally, other programming options are available that allow high-volume production line programming; pre-programmed devices can be provided through partner manufacturers.
The new line of all flash 8-bit microcontrollers is sure to add value and quality to many products now and in the future.
